Habitat for Humanity is known for its construction of new homes for families in need. Purdue Habitat provides volunteering opportunities with the local affiliate, Lafayette Habitat for Humanity, along with two additional affiliates in Crawfordsville, IN and Lebanon, IN to its members almost every Saturday of the school year. This volunteering can involve anything from construction of the framework, to putting up drywall, to blowing insulation in the attic of homes as well as tasks around the Habitat affiliate itself such as organizing their construction supplies, cleaning their offices, among other activities.
No experience is necessary to volunteer with us! Everything you need to know, you will be taught on-site from the affiliate staff members. Purdue Habitat provides transportation to these volunteer opportunities. All volunteers are asked to meet in the Shreve Hall lobby at 8am on Saturdays and will be dropped back off at Shreve at or before 4pm. Upon arrival at Shreve Hall you will need to sign a waiver, provided by Purdue Habitat officers, to participate in the build. Furthermore, we request that you wear old clothing which you won’t mind getting dirty.
If you’d like to sign up for this coming Saturdays’s build volunteering, please click here.
Please read this if you are a leader of another student organization or a fraternity/sorority group who wishes to set up a volunteering day with a group. We cannot reserve a volunteering day for specific groups at request. As a student organization ourselves, it is difficult to give priority to certain groups that email us and request a “build day”. However, you can still volunteer together!
- Each person in the group must be a member of Purdue Habitat, which means each person must fill out a membership form and pay dues ($10 for the semester or $20 for the year).
- Each person must register for a build just as any other member of our student chapter would (see the above guidelines).
- To build as a group you must indicate all the names of the people you wish to volunteer with in the comments section of the registration form.
- We cannot guarantee your request, but we will try our best to make sure your group can volunteer together. If you can provide enough drivers for the size of your group, this makes accommodating your request easier!
Thank you for your cooperation and let contact us if you have any questions! Our VP of Operations, Jenna Heiser (firstname.lastname@example.org), would be happy to answer any questions you may have about these policies.
